Acrylic

Often better known by some of the trade names such as Perspex or Plexiglas. One of the most commonly used plastics for displaying POS messages – more resilient than glass and yet with the same qualities of clarity.

Edges can be diamond or flame polished to give a better finish.

PVC

Most often seen along edges of shelves either as a continuous “Shelf Strip” containing price tickets or as “Barkers” which come in many designs and are intended to highlight individual products or items.

Comes in thinner dimensions than Acrylic and is much more flexible (though not floppy) to the touch. It is unlikely to shatter or break in normal use >

Clear PVC usually come with either a slight blue or grey tint and is not as clear as Acrylic, Styrene or PETG.

PETG

A much newer plastic, which, is coming into increased use. Comes in a wider range of thickness’ and can be used an alternative to both Acrylic and PVC has greater “Green” credentials but is more expensive to use.

PETG is much tougher that Acrylic with properties much closer than Polycarbonate.

Polycarbonate

Look similar to PETG and Acrylic but much tougher than the latter and more difficult (and expensive) to bend.

Styrene

More rigid than PVC but less brittle than Acrylic tend mostly to be used un moulded leaflet and brochure holders.

Heat Bending

Using a heat source – usually a heated strip(s) or wire(s) to bring the material close to its melting point in order to bend it.
